C.H. Hanson Employees Take On the Naperville 5K
The Hanson Helps Team here at C.H. Hanson created a healthy lifestyle program for any employee to join. This program encouraged participants to follow a healthy lifestyle while also preparing everyone for The Healthy Driven Naperville 5K (run or walk) event that took place on October 17th, 2021.
The program included an 11-week running or walking program to prepare individuals for the 5K, weekly emails with fitness and mental health tips, healthy snacks or lunch (monthly), weekly contest drawings, and a Fitness Tracker.
Why participate? There are many benefits to maintaining a healthy lifestyle. To name a few: it helps you live longer, controls your stress, maintains your immune system, delays the effects of aging, gives you energy, and increases your mood.
Losing or maintaining weight is equal parts exercising and eating the right foods. Fruits, vegetables, protein, and lots of water are a great first step. But other habits that may affect weight are: eating too fast, eating out of boredom, eating take-out frequently, and eating while distracted (such as in front of a TV). Instead, focus on planning your meals, slowing down when you eat, eating when you are truly hungry, and avoiding being distracted while eating.
Developing healthy habits will help you stay on track. Some small things that will make a big impact are:
1. Make sure you find time to exercise. Whether that’s before or after work, finding the right time to exercise will help you achieve your health goals.
2. Try cutting out one unhealthy food and replacing it with a healthy one. An example would be cutting out soda and replacing it with water.
3. Meal prepping once a week. This will not only make weekdays easier, but then you are less likely to order takeout.
Staying consistent is the hardest part of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Our healthy lifestyle program was designed to keep participants motivated and consistent through weekly prize drawings, healthy meal ideas and an exercise program.
We’d like to congratulate those participants on their efforts these past 11 weeks. It’s no easy feat to continuously train and follow a healthy diet but your determination did not go unnoticed! Take a look at some of the pictures we snapped from the 5K.
